Klootschieten is the Dutch word for ball shooting. It is a common sport played in the Twente region of The Netherlands. People from Twente would say it in their lovely accent as “Kloatscheet’n”. Klootschieten shares some rich history as it is thought to have been played since the thirteenth century. The aim of this sport is to throw the weight ball with an underhand throw as far as possible, the ball is called the kloot hence the name Klootschieten.
The sport really started to become popular within The Netherlands in the year 1500. The sport has a long standing tradition of being played on the countryside from Twente, to date!
